Why Choose Cornish College?

When you consider the best school for your child(ren), you will probably find that most schools carefully script their words to emphasise what differentiates them and makes their school stand out.
At Cornish College we feel it would be more insightful for potential families to read the unedited comments of those who have experienced, or who are currently experiencing, the internationally acclaimed educational offering that is delivered at Cornish.
We hope you enjoy their comments, and that they inspire you to come and see what makes our families such passionate supporters of our school. For more information on visiting the school click here. We look forward to showing you our unique educational environment.
Note to current students, past students, parents and staff...we'd love you to write a post (just a few sentences) to tell everyone...
"Why the educational experience at Cornish is so special to you...."

Cornish College is quite simply the best school in Melbourne! Everything about it is special...from the stunning 100 acre lakeside setting, through to the passionate teachers who develop well rounded, well educated children. We love this school!

I love my school because the kids are so friendly. I really like Eco Kids because we cook things using the veggies and herbs that we grow in our veggie patches.

The years my daughter spent in the Early Learning Centre were amazing. Here is a place where children are valued, respected and nurtured. When children are given the opportunity, trust and resources that are capable of astounding things. A typical day may include a walk through the fairy forest, a visit to the chook pen, a walk through the orchard and past the bird houses and onto the island in the middle of the lake to toast marshmallows and share conversations. Children are invited to really take time and space to engage, activities are stretched over days and weeks with no pressure to pack up at the end of the day but time to return to drawings, projects or pieces of art many, many times. I see children emerge from the ELC as confident learners, with a deep love and respect for nature and each other

One of the things I love so much about being part of the Cornish College community is that all the values I hold dear as a parent are reflected in the ethos of the school. Values such as compassion and nurture for ourselves and each other, justice and fairness for the world around us, co-operation and interaction across all year levels, honesty and integrity in all that we do and engaging in the questions of life

Cornish caters to the needs of every child. We have two very different children, each with different learning styles and learning needs. Both are catered for in a way which suits them best. Our son could easily get lost in a different environment but at Cornish he is seen and appreciated for who he is and not just what he is capable of doing or not doing. Our prep daughter gets to flourish and learn in an environment rich in the art she loves. As parents which get to engage with a community where we are also enriched and learning along the way. When we had to look elsewhere for schools for our children, there was no where else which 'fit' our children or our family.

Cornish College has a unique atmosphere of 'unanxious expectation' of all our students. This approach creates a sense of calm and cooperation between staff and within the whole community. Our location is also unique. The green wedge site allows all classrooms to look out over greenery and yet there are many nooks with splendid little gardens and water features. In Spring, you can look out windows onto a blaze of colour from the flowers. Other colourful sights come from the exciting art work that pops up in unexpected places all around the buildings and near the lake. With an environment as vibrant as this, inspiration to ask questions and learn comes naturally. Who wouldn't want this for their children?

We chose Cornish 4 years ago. We were only looking at sending our children to Private school for their Secondary years, however after touring Cornish we chose to send them in Years 3 and 5. It is the best educational decision we have made. Our children are both different in nature and academic ability. Both are catered for by the teaching staff. The ancillary staff also go beyond their call of duty to look after the students at Cornish and it is never a bother for them to help parents.

Our beautiful daughter has absolutely flourished since moving to Cornish. In particular her self-awareness and confidence have developed remarkably. By virtue of the units of enquiry she is exposed to, she has become incredibly inquisitive - asking us quite insightful questions about how and why things work, at the ripe old age of 6.
However it's also the sense of community that appeals to us as parents. We quickly felt welcomed by the community of parents (past and present) and embraced the range of school and social activities they drive. When you add to all this a reputation as a leader in sustainability thinking and practices, a phenomenal International Baccalaureate program, teachers that are clearly passionate in their care for developing the next generation of thinkers and a peaceful, learning environment - I simply can't imagine ever sending our children anywhere else. Our little boy is absolutely busting to join his sister next year!

Amazing staff, amazing curriculum, amazing community! Not to mention the beautiful location. As an extended family we all get to be a part of this wonderful school. Our daughter has blossomed not only from an educational perspective but also as importantly from an interpersonal perspective too! We as a family are richer from the experience of Cornish and look forward to many many more years ahead! Thankfully we have two more children to come!

We love Cornish because the leaders of the school listen and know us. They allow our children to have a voice and be seen. They teach our children to be leaders and allow them to experience that everyday. They care about the environment, about what we do with our planet and they teach our kids fundamental skills that have been forgotten. We love how the teachers 'see' our kids and invest in bringing what is unique about them 'out'. This is the school for our family and we belong here in this community, with other passionate, like minded families. I could go on forever about what we love abouth this school. Come to this school if you want to make a difference.

I'm going to this school next year, and I was a bit nervous but reading all these nice comments about Cornish has made it so much easier for me.

Throughout the 5 years my children have attended Cornish, never have they expressed the desire not to attend school. They actually want to go to Cornish! They love their learning environment and feel listened to and respected for their individuality. School mornings are a positive experience in our home and not a battleground. This is a huge plus in our family life!

I attended the school in 1991 and 1992 when there was a real sense of being a pioneer. I have very fond memories of the school and its teachers, and started lifelong friendships there. The school is genuinely progressive and forward thinking. For example, way back in 1991 environmentalism and globalisation were at the centre of the curriculum. Other schools simply weren't focusing on these major themes. The school celebrates the diversity of its students and many different types of children do well there. Academically I can say it's as good a preparation for university as children need, without pushing kids too hard or making them try to fit the one mould. I have studied and worked alongside people who attended some of the most famous and prestigious schools in the world but most didn't receive the range of experiences we did at this school, and had a much more negative recollection of their education. The place is unpretentious, but has great facilities and values excellence and achievement. The natural Australian bush setting really adds a lot. I would strongly recommend it to prospective students and their families.

This School is definitely the best school around.

You can feel it when you drive in the front gate. You can feel it when you peek into classrooms where kids are totally engaged by their learning. This is a place where talent is nurtured, hard work is recognized and differences are accepted and celebrated. There is something special going on at Cornish College and in the words of my 9 year old boy: "This is the best school ever!"
