We have won the Regional Award in the Victoria Schools Garden Awards for our Indigenous Plant Trail.

The trail was created by Year 1 students in 2014 as part of our Make a Difference Week to educate themselves and others about indigenous people and their culture. It consists of sixteen plants and it weaves around our school’s beautiful property. With our emphasis on sustainability, we used existing plants rather than new ones and no pathways were built to create the trail.

The Indigenous Plant Trail is regularly used to engage and educate students. Our Year 1 classes visit sections of the trail most weeks as part of Dhumba-dha biik – a weekly program where students form strong connections to their land.

We now progress to the next stage where we are entered into the Most Engaging Student Garden For Teaching category. The winner will be announced at the end of November.

For everyone involved in helping to develop the trail back in 2014, and for those that regularly use it to educate and engage our students, thank you!
