It was a great pleasure to award Year 12 student Zac Baruhas as the 2018 recipient of the Cornish Award, in recognition of his embodiment of the Cornish culture and the values of respect, creativity, integrity and compassion.

Principal Vicki Steer described Zac as “incredibly thoughtful and kind. As a mentor of Year 1s, he was enthusiastic, reliable and genuine. As a House Captain, he led by example, happy to step out of his comfort zone to mobilise and unite. Taking up various opportunities to both expand and build on his personal best, his inspiring and eloquent speech delivered at the Victorian Schools Public Speaking Competition about the current state of education and its impact on self-esteem and creativity, left the judges in awe. Zac aspires to study Journalism. Our world needs positivity, integrity and empathy and we are confident that Zac will remain true to his commitment to make a difference.”

During his Valedictorian speech, Zac shared that “everyone at Cornish treats you like a better person until you become one.” We are very proud of the person you have become, and look forward to following your journey into the future. Well done Zac.
