With MPs discussing proposed changes to funding models for education in recent months, Principal, Ms Vicki Steer, and Chair, Rev. Dr Robert Johnson, have travelled to Canberra to put forward the Cornish College case for fair funding. Cornish negotiated a meeting with the Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP, Shadow Minister for Education and Deputy Leader of the Opposition, to seek support for a fair, transparent and accurate funding model for all.

Joined by local Federal MP Mark Dreyfus QC, Shadow Attorney General, Vicki and Robert outlined the potential impact of government policy development. Vicki said of the meeting “We felt it was important to be proactive and put Cornish College forward as a case study, to help to explain the impact of decisions around government funding for schools”.

Vicki and Robert are reassured by Tanya Plibersek’s response to the issues raised, with an understanding of the need for effective planning, transparency and lead times for change.
