Robert Johnson Scholarship

Who can apply?

The Robert Johnson Scholarship provides a Cornish College education for a student who would not otherwise have the financial means to attend the College. Students who are in Year 6, 2024 and who do not attend Cornish College, are eligible to apply, for entry to the College in Year 7.

NB: Financial means are a key consideration in the selection process and families will need to participate in a means test process

Selection process

Whilst this is not a scholarship focused on academics, applicants will be required to participate in a critical thinking test and the scholarship awardee will need to demonstrate a high level of competence in academic achievement.

The following are the key steps in the selection process:

  • Expression of Interest
  • Critical thinking test
  • Interview

Selection criteria

A Robert Johnson Scholar will be someone who is passionate about contributing to change and making a difference for a sustainable future. The following criteria will be considered, as part the application process:

  • Personal alignment with the College’s values – respect, integrity, creativity, compassion…always with courage
  • Having aspirational goals for achieving success in education which go beyond academic performance
  • Being committed to the leadership of social justice and contribute to school and community opportunities to promote this
  • Preparedness to engage in student-directed curriculum and learning opportunities that exist and develop at the College
  • Having the mindset of an educational change-maker to support the College’s mission of an education that shapes futures
  • A link to the Uniting Church is not essential, but would be advantageous

Important notes

  • Registrations for Year 7, 2025 are now closed and no late registrations will be accepted.
  • Once registrations close, a short list of applicants will be determined from the applications received. Those on the short list will be invited to participate in the next stage of the selection process, the critical thinking test, which will take place on Saturday 2 March, 2024
  • If a student is registered for both a General Excellence and Robert Johnson Scholarship, they will sit the General Excellence test on Saturday 2 March and we will offer an alternate date for the Robert Johnson Scholarship critical thinking test
  • Following the critical thinking test, an interview list will be determined. Those on that list will be invited to participate in the next stage of the selection process, an interview with the Principal
