Perfectly positioned within Melbourne’s famous sandbelt courses; Keysborough Golf Club was the venue for Cornish College’s inaugural Golf Day, which took place on Thursday 30 August. The day raised funds to support the construction of the new Senior Studies Centre which is tee’d up to open in mid 2019, while also bringing the broader College community together for an afternoon of networking.

After a beautiful buffet lunch, golfers enjoyed an 18-hole Ambrose competition with a shotgun start. Teams battled it out to win an array of marvellous prizes on offer, earnt through either golfing skill, raffle or auction – including Cornish branded golf balls or a driver from Callaway, umbrellas and golf balls from NGS Super, a cleaning pack from Hunter Industrials, wonderful drinks hamper from Craft & Co, a game of golf for four from the Parents’ Association, Cornish cookbooks, a putter from BlueGum, a gift pack from Nissan Motorsport, novelty club covers and putting alignment mirrors.

Every Aussie golf aficionado’s dream came true, as players were joined out on the course by 1999 Australian Masters winner, Craig Spence, for a chance to ‘beat the pro’. Mr Spence earlier joined the players in the clubhouse for a short Q&A session; reliving the very moment that he proudly won the prestigious competition, in what was no doubt a career-defining moment.

It was great to see the variety of teams out on the course; from students and their parents to alumni, a Cornish teacher team (who took the NAGA award), friends of Cornish and sponsors.

The eventual winners of the 2018 Golf Day were the team of Steve, Tony, Travis and Shane, who played some terrific golf throughout.

The College would like to express sincere gratitude to the event sponsors, whom without, the day would not have been possible:

  • Gold sponsor – Driver Coastal
  • Silver sponsor – South Eastern Cleaning Services
  • Bronze sponsors
    • Hunter Industrials
    • Noone
    • Choice Flooring by Smiths
    • NGS Super

Huge appreciation is also extended to the various supporters of the day: Callaway, Craft & Co, BlueGum, The Parents’ Association, Nissan Motorsport, Craig Spence, Keysborough Golf Club, Avis Frankston & Dandenong and Kingston Landscape.
