Congratulations to two of our Year 11 students, Ben and Rhys, who submitted essays for consideration in the John Button School Prize. The Melbourne School of Government awards this prize each year to a Victorian student in Years 10, 11 or 12 for the best essay on a subject concerning Australia’s future.
A special congratulations to Ben, whose thought-provoking essay, ‘Cultural and religious beliefs do not take precedence over human rights,’ was shortlisted for this year’s prize.
Students must submit a persuasive, engaging and well-researched argument concerning Australian politics or policy in an essay of 1,800 to 2,000 words. Essays typically focus on key ideas for Australia’s future including population, climate change, reconciliation with First Peoples, water, asylum seekers, education, health or the state of the arts.
We commend both Ben and Rhys in recognition of their fantastic essay submissions and for providing inspiring arguments on how to make a difference regarding important issues facing Australia’s future.
