Scholarships
To ensure the academic excellence of the school, provide role models for students, celebrate excellence and enhance the education standard in the classroom, Scholarships may be awarded each year for entry to Cornish College the following year.
Cornish College Scholarship Program for 2014 is now open.
At this time, Cornish College is pleased to be able to offer scholarships at the following levels:
- Girls in Year 4 2013 for entry into Year 5 2014 (Primary Scholarship Program)
- Girls in Year 5 2013 for entry into Year 6 2014 (Primary Scholarship Program)
- Girls in Year 7 2013 for entry into Year 8 2014 (SST - Scholarship Test)
- Girls in Year 8 2013 for entry into Year 9 2014 (SST - Scholarship Test)
- Girls in Year 9 2013 for entry into Year 10 2014 (SST - Scholarship Test)
- Girls in Year 10 2013 for entry into Year 11 2014 (SST - Scholarship Test)
Details of Testing
The scholarship examination will be held on Saturday 10 August 2013 at Cornish College, 65 Riverend Road, Bangholme (Melways Ref 93 J12) beginning at 8.45am and finishing at approximately 12.00pm. All students for both General Excellence or Performing Arts are requried to sit for the examination.
Cost of Testing - $95.oo per student.

Summary of Cornish College's Scholarship policy
- Scholarships will be awarded based on merit (including independent testing by external facilitators)
- Scholarships will be open to existing Cornish College students as well as new students to the College
- Scholarship award holders will not receive a sibling discount in addition to the scholarship offered
- Scholarships awards are applied to Tuition fee costs only
Scholarships available
General Excellence (defined as being academically gifted, as well as proven excellence across either: Drama OR Leadership OR Music OR Sport)
a) Primary Scholarships:
Typically 33% off Tuition Fee Scholarships are available for entry into Year 3 and Year 5 (and will run to the conclusion of Year 6*). However depending on availability, scholarships may be awarded in other years. In addition, the Primary Performing Arts Scholarship - Music will also include a 33% remission of annual music tuition fees for one 30 minute private lesson per week undertaken at the College in one instrument, provided this is taught by a member of the College's Music staff, which includes Voice. Primary Performing Arts Scholarship - Drama will also include a 33% remission of annual Drama tuition fees for one group, 40 minute, lesson per week undertaken at the College. The cost of any additional Music, Voice or Drama lessons will be the responsibility of the parent and does not form part of the Scholarship terms. A commitment to perform in Cornish College Ensembles and/or Choirs is an essential condition of holding a Performing Arts Scholarship.
b) Secondary Scholarships:
Typically 33% off Tuition Fee Scholarships are available for entry into Year 7 and Year 9 (and will run to the conclusion of Year 12). However depending on availability, scholarships may be awarded in other years. In addition, the Secondary Performing Arts Scholarship - Music will also include a 33% remission of annual music tuition fees for one 30 minute private lesson per week undertaken at the College in one instrument, provided this is taught by a member of the College's Music staff, which includes Voice. Secondary Performing Arts Scholarship - Drama will also include a 33% remission of annual Drama tuition fees for one group, 40 minute, lesson per week undertaken at the College. c) Discretionary Scholarships:
From time to time the Principal or Board may elect to offer additional scholarships.
*at which point, Scholarship holders may apply for Scholarships for Secondary level entry
Performing Arts Scholarship
Drama
In addition to sitting the General Excellence examination, applicants may be invited to attend an audition. Applicants currently in Year 4, Year 5 and Year 7 will be asked to present a solo piece e.g. poetry or the student's own creation. The piece should be no more than two minutes duration. Applicants will also be asked to perform in a group improvisation. A discussion will also take place which will cover previous experience, future aspirations and the understanding of the arts in the applicants life.
Music and Voice
For all instruments including voice, the following minimum standard will apply:
- Students entering Year 5 and Year 6 require minimum Grade 3 AMEB or equivalent.
- Students entering Year 7 require a minimum Grade 4 AMEB or equivalent.
- Students entering Year 8 require a minimum Grade 5 AMEB or equivalent.
- Students entering Year 9, Year 10 or Year 11 require minimum Grade 6 AMEB or equivalent.
In addition to sitting the General Excellence examination, applicants may be invited to attend an audition. Applicants should present two contrasting pieces that demonstrate two distinct styles; each piece should be no more than two minutes in duration. Technical work will include two scales, aural and sight reading tests. A discussion will also take place which will cover previous experience, future aspirations and the understanding of the arts in the applicants life. Please note that the College does not provide the services of an accompanist for auditions, so please be sure that auditioning students make adequate arrangements. Students will be asked to arrive 15 - 20 minutes prior to their audition time and must report to the staff for registration. Once registered, students will be taken to a practice area for warming up.
Auditions for Music, including Voice and Drama will be held in mid August 2013.
In addition to completing the online registration, all applicants are required to submit supporting documents presented in a plastic folder, which should arrive by no later than 4.00pm Friday 9 August, 2013 and must include:
- A photocopy of their 2012 end of year school report
- A photocopy of their most recent NAPLAN test report
- A copy of any relevant supporting drama, music or voice documents such as examination results, certificates, awards and or photographs of trophies
- A clear and recent photograph of the applicant
Please note that supporting documents are not returned and that originals must not be sent.
